Choice

by Timothy Fortune

Each and every day we have hundreds of decisions we make. Put before us is the choice of what we should do and the road we should take. You made a choice to be reading this article. You can stop at this moment or continue reading, and the choice is yours. We can look at our lives now and see the decisions we have made that brought us to where we are. There is a saying that if you want something different you have to do something different. If you don’t like where you are then start making decisions to change. Change is not automatic; you make a choice to change. If someone wants to get out of debt they start making decisions to cut back and go on a strict budget. A person wanting to further their education makes a decision to go back to school. A person wanting to start exercising makes a choice to start doing some physical activities. A person wanting a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus makes a choice to spend time in His word and praying. We can say what we want about our lives, but in most cases we are were we want to be. If we truly wanted to be somewhere different we would make a decision to go there.

Scripture says choose this day who you will serve. Deuteronomy 11:26 says, “Behold I set before you today a blessing and a curse.” We make the decision as to which one we walk in. We can point fingers and blame others and make excuses as to why we are where we are, but the truth is, we choose to be here.

Sometimes we can look at where we want to be and think... I will never get there. In this situation, what we have to do is make the next decision the right one. Then, after that one is made, focus on making the next decision the right one and before you know it you will be closer than you think to where you want to be. This is not rocket science; it is just simply making a decision to do the right thing. If you find you have made a wrong decision then make a decision to make the right decision. So as today progresses stop and think before you make some irrational decision. Think about where you want to be and then make a choice to go there.
